The United States Open Golf Championship, commonly known as the U.S. Open, is the second of the four major championships in golf and is on the official schedule of both the PGA Tour and the European Tour. It is staged by the United States Golf Association (USGA) in mid-June of each year.
The schedule is to allow the final round to be played on the third Sunday, which is Father’s Day (unless there are weather delays).
The U.S. Open is staged at a variety of courses, rotated yearly, including venues such as the famed Pebble Beach Golf Links. The level of difficulty for this event is among the highest of all professional tournaments and typically equates to some of the thickest primary rough in golf along with above par scores. The U.S. Open has sold out for more than 25 consecutive years. The 2012 Championship promises to be no exception.
